Mission Statement

At Willow Brook Academy our main objective is to provide the highest quality educational environment in which children can develop within themselves the skills, attitudes, habits and ideas that will serve and guide them throughout their lives. Our goals for each child reflect the philosophy of Dr. Maria Montessori:

Independence
We allow independence within a structured, carefully prepared classroom as well as an organized and safe outdoor learning environment. Each child determines the direction of their own learning and works willingly towards the goals they set for themselves. The materials are designed to be self-correcting and progressively challenging. Children can discover for themselves the satisfaction of trying hard and the joy of succeeding.

Academic Excellence
Our teaching methods address each child intellectually, socially and physically. The curriculum is personalized and tailored to the appropriate developmental stage of each child. Using hands on learning, with everyday objects teaching language, math and science, children develop concrete learning and thinking skills. Then, by taking the skills learned in the classroom and applying them to the outside world, each lesson is grounded in reality, interconnected and relational.

Responsibility and Respect for Self, Others and the Environment
In our classrooms, each child is an important and valuable person and is treated with respect. Their opinions are valued and their needs and desires honored. The children learn that by respecting others, others will then respect them. Children are also taught to be responsible for themselves and their actions. By learning socially acceptable behavior, children are then prepared to become productive, respectful and responsible members of society. The children are also taught to become empathetic and sympathetic to others within the classroom. This teaches them the skills to be compassionate to everyone and everything. Conservation and environmental awareness is also an important aspect of the philosophy and the children are eager to participate in making their world a safer and cleaner place.
